TonecastBot
TonecastBot is the crawler of Tonecast, a service that shows what AI assistants say about brands, products,
public figures and topics, and which public web pages shaped those answers. It reads public pages that AI
answers cite or that rank for the questions our customers track. It identifies itself, respects
robots.txt, and fetches slowly.
How to recognise it
Its user agent contains TonecastBot and a link to this page, for example:
TonecastBot/0.1 (+https://tonecast.io/bot; source-graph research)
What it fetches, and what it does not
- Public web pages only: pages an AI assistant cited in an answer, pages that appear in search results for the questions a campaign tracks, feeds, and pages a customer declared as its own website.
- It never logs in, never submits forms, never fetches content behind a paywall or a login, and never collects from closed platforms.
- It keeps the text of the page, its title, publisher, author name and date as published, and the analyses derived from it (relevance and tone towards the subject). See the privacy policy.
- It fetches a page again only when it has to: a page an answer keeps citing, or a feed at its polling interval.
How to block it
TonecastBot obeys robots.txt. To keep it out of your whole site, add:
User-agent: TonecastBot
Disallow: /
To keep it out of part of the site, disallow that path only. Changes apply the next time it reads your
robots.txt.
How to ask for a page to be removed
If a page that mentions you has been collected and you want it removed, write to privacy@tonecast.io with the address of the page (or of the whole site). We delete the stored text and keep the page out of every source graph from then on. The privacy policy explains your rights.
